Manchester Academy’s Samuel Remi-Akinwale has been appointed to represent the city on the UK’s Youth Parliament.
Year 11 student, Samuel has been an active campaigner at the Academy for the last few years, meeting the Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Sir Howard Bernstein in late 2013 to promote the youth club movement.
Now Samuel’s political skills have been recognised with his appointment as voted by his peers into a senior member of the UKYP, representing the interests of young people aged 11-18 in the Manchester area at the North West and National meetings. As part of the appointment Samuel will be privileged to visit the Houses of Parliament in November for the national chamber sittings meeting discussing the Make Your Make campaign.
Commented Manchester Academy’s Principal Andy Griffin:
“Samuel has always taken an active role in supporting the causes he believes in and he will be a superb advocate for the young people of this city. He is a real credit to himself and to this academy and we wish him all the very best in his new role.”
