Manchester Academy shortlisted for national Community Award

Manchester Academy has been shortlisted as a national finalist for the Outstanding Community Impact Award.

The award recognises schools and organisations that make a real difference to their local communities. The national School and Trust Leadership Awards ceremony will take place in June.

This shortlist recognises a year of strong partnerships and community‑focused work that has helped Manchester Academy become a welcoming space for students, families and local residents.

Working in partnership

Manchester Academy works closely with local organisations, charities and services to support the wider community. Through these partnerships, the school has opened its doors for events, learning opportunities and support that help people feel connected and included.

Building connection and belonging

One popular initiative is Chatty Café, which offers a friendly and relaxed space for conversation. It brings people together and helps reduce loneliness by encouraging connection in a warm, informal setting.

The Academy also hosts ESOL classes for parents and carers. These sessions help people improve their English, build confidence and feel more independent when using everyday services.

Events that celebrate culture and identity are an important part of community life at Manchester Academy. Culture Day brought together students, families and staff to share food, music and traditions, led by student voice and creativity. The Faces of Our Community project also highlighted local people, helping to build pride and stronger relationships.

Opening the school to the community

Manchester Academy’s first Community Open Evening was a huge success, welcoming hundreds through our doors. Families toured the school, met staff and students, shared food and experienced the Academy as an open and welcoming place.

The school also works with partners such as the Manchester United Foundation, the NHS, Barclays, and local charities. Together, they have supported youth activity, health awareness, financial education and families who need extra help.

A proud moment

Mrs McMullen, Vice Principal at Manchester Academy, said:“We are very proud to support our community. This recognition is a testament to the fantastic partnerships we have in place and the shared commitment to working together for our community.”

Being shortlisted is a proud moment for Manchester Academy, and the school remains committed to strengthening partnerships and supporting its community every day.
