Students and staff at Manchester Academy celebrate their GCSE results

Students and staff at Manchester Academy are celebrating their GCSE results, with 51% of students achieving a grade 4 or above in both English and maths.  There were particularly strong results in maths, with seven students achieving the top grade 9 in maths and 100% of students achieving an A* or A in Further Maths.

The academy’s highest performing student Taha Al Mansouri achieved 86.5 points across 12 qualifications.  He achieved four 9s, one A^, one A*, one 8, 6, two 5s, one 4 and one B. 

He said: “I’m very pleased and I did a lot better than I thought.  I’m going to do A Levels in Maths, Physics and Computer Science at Loreto College.  I’m really going to miss my time at Manchester Academy.  It’s like a real community and the teachers are brilliant.”

Twins Iman and Gihan Achaiba were thrilled with their results.  

Iman, who received four 6s, two 5s, two 4s, one A* and two Bs, said:

“I was very scared at first about opening my results but I’m very happy.”

Iman is going to Loreto College to study A Levels in Accounting, Economics and Business Studies.

Gihan achieved two 4s, six 5s, one 6, one 7 and one A*. 

She said: “My belly was aching and I was shaking before I opened my results but when I saw them I felt very relieved.  I’m really going to miss my time at Manchester Academy.  I’ve made a lot of friends and the teachers really helped me get good grades.”

Molly Hopkins, who achieved a Merit in her BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Music, three 6s, two 5s, three 3s and one 4, said:

“I felt horrible before I opened my results.  I was so nervous.  I’m really pleased with how I did and I’m really looking forward to going to music college.”

Ilona Bognar achieved four As, three 7s, one A*, one B and two 6s. 

She said: “I was so nervous before I opened my results but I’m so happy.  I did a lot better than I thought I was going to do.  I’m going to go to Loreto or Xavarian College to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths.”

Rebaz Karim achieved two 8s, four 9s, one 5, two 7s, one B and one A ^. 

He said: “I did a lot better than I thought.  I’m going to do Maths, Chemistry and Physics A Levels at Loreto College.”

Muhammad Jamalludin achieved one 9, one A*, five 7s, one 6, two 5s and one C. 

He said: “I was surprised how well I did.  I think it’s got a lot to do with the teachers at Manchester Academy as they are very friendly and supportive. I’m going to do Physics, Chemistry and Maths A Levels at Loreto College.”

Ermiya Eskandary, who achieved three 9s, three 8s, one 7, one 6, two A*s and one B, said:

“I was quite nervous when I opened my results but I got what I predicted so I feel very happy.  I’m going to do a 12 month apprenticeship in software development so I’m really looking forward to starting that.”

Acting Principal Deana Owen said: “I’m very proud of all the hard work from all our students and staff.  The results are a reflection of our continued journey of improvement, and we wish all the students well with their futures.”

***Further Maths GCSE is the only exam that awards the A^, known as an A hat. It is the equivalent of an A**.
