This week we had the brilliant comedian and comic strip creator, Kev Sutherland visit the school to take part in a handful of workshops with Year 5 pupils from St. Mary’s C.E. Primary School in Moss Side alongside a group of our Year 9 students.
The Carnegie Shadowing Group is made up of enthusiastic readers from across KS3 who have set out on a challenge to read all 7 of the Carnegie shortlisted books between April and June!
On Thursday, 2nd March, Manchester Academy celebrated World Book Day with a range of exciting activities!
On Thursday, 22nd December, Year 8 students had a comic book workshop with the wonderful Marvel cartoonist, Kev Sutherland.
On 17th November a group of Year 10 students visited the House of Commons in London for an English workshop and had a question-and-answer session with MP, Lucy Powell.
This academic year, the English curriculum area are running a KS3 Reading Club in line with the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals (the oldest and most prestigious awards). This allows students the opportunity to read and review books.
Manchester Academy celebrates Shakespeare's anniversary with trip to see Hamlet
Every student in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 (KS3) has been given a ‘Manchester Reading Miles Passport.’ This is to encourage them to read for pleasure.
