Manchester United mascot Fred the Red made a special appearance as Manchester Academy kicked off its first football tournament for local Primary School students.

At the final whistle it was a team from Claremont Primary - Claremont 3 - that walked away with the top honours, after a morning of thrilling football that culminated in a penalty shootout.

The tournament saw three local primary schools: - Heald Place Primary School; St Mary’s C of E Primary School and Claremont Primary School vying for the top spot and the chance of a trophy.

Special prizes were awarded, including Manchester United match tickets for Player of the Tournament.

Event manager Luke Ross offered his thanks to Young Leaders Hilal Khan, Robiul Islam, Mustafa Nadjafa, Subeer Ishmail, Mahad Baily, Shaafici Yasin, Ali Salim, Abet Zazai, Isse Hassan, Maame Danquah, Renee Rattan and Moheel Farooqi for all their help ensuring the event ran smoothly.
