The Maths curriculum is designed to ensure that all students make rapid progress and strive for mastery by developing fluency in skills and enjoyment in the application of these skills in everyday life and in abstract situations. We teach this by breaking skills and problems down into small steps and ensuring that students master each skill before moving on to the next through a process of deliberate practice. Students are encouraged to communicate their work in the language of Mathematics and to become proficiently numerate by identifying links between the different areas of Mathematics. We believe all students can succeed in Maths and become confident, mathematically competent young adults.
In Maths lessons, students will develop their knowledge and understanding of the following topics:
- Number
- Algebra
- Ratio, Proportion and Rates of change
- Geometry and Measures
- Statistics and Probability
Mathematics also helps students to develop the ability to:
- Acquire and use problem-solving strategies and use critical thinking skills
- Select and apply mathematical techniques and methods in mathematical and real-world situations
- Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences and draw conclusions
- Interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context
