Our aim is to provide a History curriculum that is rich, challenging, diverse and inclusive for all our students. History is important because it enables our students to understand the past and to use that knowledge to make informed judgements about the present and future. Our curriculum, which follows the national curriculum, is mapped in a chronological narrative from Medieval to present day - enabling students to understand the timeline of events and reflect on how society has changed over time. Through the different historical topics and skills, students gain a clear insight into past and present societies and a better understanding of the world they live in - we believe this is essential in supporting the development of strong character.
We plan for the development and understanding of the following skills and concepts:
Skills:
- Inference of sources
- Usefulness of sources
- Interpreting sources
- Narrative account
Concepts:
- Significance
- Cause and Consequence
- Making Judgments
- Change and Continuity
