Manchester Academy’s Ali Aldhufairi is set to box for England, after taking the title of British School Boy Champion.
Ali, who is in Year 7 at the Moss Side based school, first started boxing when he was 11 and is now a member of the Longsight Boxing Club.
After six months of taking part in heats across the country, the 12-year-old was recently named as British School Boy Champion, needing just two rounds to beat his opponent in the final of the competition, held at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park.
That victory has helped Ali, who is from Longsight, secure a place in the national squad.
Manchester Academy's Principal, Andy Griffin commented:
"We’re incredibly proud of Ali. Not only has he proved he is the best in his age range across schools nationally, but he has now earned a well-deserved place in the England squad. We look forward to watching his career go from strength to strength.”
