Manchester Academy's Photography Students Experience Working with the Local Community
Manchester Academy is proud to launch a brand-new photography project titled the ‘Faces of Our Community,’ a heartwarming celebration of the incredible people who make up the Academy’s vibrant and diverse community. From students and staff to parents, carers, and local supporters – the project aims to capture the spirit of our community through the lens of creativity.
Student-Led and Full of Talent
The portraits have been taken by our talented Year 10 photography students, who have been putting their skills into action in our professional studio set-up. With guidance from staff, the students have worked hard to photograph volunteers from across the school community, learning about photography and storytelling through images.
So far, around 20 brilliant volunteers have taken part – and the results are already looking fantastic.
See It for Yourself – Exhibition Coming Soon
The first public exhibition of ‘Faces of Our Community’ will take place on Monday 15th July, with families invited to visit the school in the evening to view the full gallery of portraits and celebrate the students’ hard work.
Later in the year, the project will head to The Whitworth Art Gallery in September, giving the students the incredible opportunity to exhibit their work in one of Manchester’s most respected art spaces.
A Keepsake for All
To mark the project, a special photo book will also be produced featuring all the portraits, creating a lasting memory of the community that surrounds and supports Manchester Academy.
This project shows how Manchester Academy helps students grow in confidence, learn new skills, and feel proud of their place in the community – even before their first day.
