Fiction (stories) books can be found on the lower bookcases. They are put on the shelf in alphabetical order using the 1st letter of the author’s surname. For example, books by Mallorie Blackman will have the letter ‘B’ on the spine label of the book

Some of the fiction has been divided into genre (types)

Quick reads – these  type of books can  have: a shorter narrative and or some illustrations. Some have a background page colour that is more helpful to dyslexic readers.

Millennium Library – these are a collection of classic books that also include some non-fiction.

Graphic novels – are books that contain cartoon type illustrations as well as some text.
Science fiction and Mystery & Fantasy books have also been separated from the main fiction collection.

All of the above can be found on the lower book cases at the end of the main fiction collection. This is with the exception of Graphic Novels which, because of their size, can be found at the end of the non-fiction collection.

Non-Fiction (fact) books can be found on the taller bookcases. They are arranged in number order using a system called Dewey. The numbers run from 000 to 999. The number on the book depends on the subject. For example maths books will have the number 510 on the spine label of the book. If you are not sure where to find what you are looking for, ask the member of staff on duty to help.

PSHE books have been separated from the main stock and can be found at the end of the non – fiction. They are arranged in the same way as the non-fiction, but, as well as a Dewey number, they have ‘PSHE’ on the spine label.

Reference books are non-fiction books that cannot be removed from the library. They can be found on the first tall bookcase at the back of the library. In this section you will find a variety of dictionaries including, business, law, languages, and grammar as well as: atlases, and encyclopaedias.

Non-book Resources are currently under development.

The Library Assistant and any other staff, who are on duty during library opening times, are here to help you with your information needs. If you would like help to locate information that will help you to complete your homework or course work, ask the member of staff on duty.
