Year 9 Students Participate In An Online Safety Workshop
Manchester Academy was thrilled to welcome the BBC Bitesize team to the school for an exciting day of learning with Year 9 students.
BBC Bitesize is a trusted online learning resource from the BBC, offering free videos, articles, and interactive activities to help students of all ages with learning and exams.
Fake News and Online Safety
Beth, Paul, and Bhash from the Bitesize team spent the day running a workshop that focused on fake news and online safety. Students explored how to spot misinformation and protect themselves against online threats such as phishing scams and the misuse of AI.
The sessions were energetic and encouraged the students to think critically about what they see and share online.
Creating Their Own Fake News Videos
A highlight of the day was an interactive activity where students teamed up to create their own fake news videos. Using cameras, microphones, and a green screen, they learned how easily digital content can be manipulated.
This hands-on experience sparked important conversations about checking facts and being responsible digital citizens.
By the end of the workshop, the students felt better informed and more confident about exploring the online world. They left with practical skills to recognise misinformation and stay safe on the internet.
Education Beyond The Classroom
This special event showed how Manchester Academy’s education goes beyond the classroom, preparing students for life beyond school with the knowledge and confidence they need to thrive in a digital world.
Manchester Academy would like to thank Beth, Paul, and Bhash from the BBC Bitesize team for their enthusiasm and for making the day so inspiring for our students.
