Volunteer Police Cadet Unit

Published on 11 May 2017

At lunchtime on Wednesday 10th May, representatives of the GMP (Greater Manchester Police) were in school to talk to students about the Volunteer Police Cadets.

The scheme is aimed at 13-17-year-olds and provides a programme of weekly cadet nights filled with activity, information and hopefully, with fun. The aims of the scheme are to:

  • Promote and encourage a practical interest in policing among young people;
  • Provide training which will encourage positive leadership within communities which will include volunteering opportunities;
  • Encourage a spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship. Cadets will have the opportunity to obtain qualifications such as First Aid and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

This is an excellent opportunity for students and it will also enhance their CVs when applying for college, university or training.
