Careers

Careers guidance is given during Year 9 in tutorial lessons to help students make their option choices for Years 10 and 11.

A meeting is held during Year 9 to explain the option system and to enable parents to discuss with House Tutors and Curriculum Area Leaders the choice of courses for their child. In Years 10 and 11, the Careers teacher and staff from Connexions work closely with the House Tutors to provide general careers guidance.

This guidance is supported by individual student interviews with the Connexions adviser. One of Connections' aims is to help students prepare to move on to the Academy Sixth Form or alternative provision. Additionally, visits to firms, colleges and careers exhibitions are organised and speakers are invited into the academy to talk to students. Guidance is also given on how to apply for a job and how students can make the best impression possible at interviews for employment or college.

Manchester Academy prides itself on the awareness students are given regarding local industry commerce and in Key Stage 4, all students have a personalised 'Work Experience' opportunity.
