Innovation
Manchester Academy wants to bring out the best in its students by giving them the best and expecting the best from them.
It does this by having a Curriculum built around students’ learning needs with a range of academic and vocational subjects which are increasingly being built into personalised programmes.
The Academy seeks to innovate but recognises that innovations are only of use when they increase and/or improve learning. In 2006, a particular innovation was the ‘Language for Learning’ project with students in Year 8 receiving accreditation for Speaking and Listening from the English Speaking Board (International) Ltd, a nationally and internationally recognised examination board.
The fact that every classroom has an Interactive Whiteboard has
meant that every teacher has the opportunity to deliver lessons which are interactive, use resources from the World Wide Web as standard and have sound and vision features not available in any other medium.
Another innovation, which attracted national news coverage in 2006 was the introduction of E4E@MA (Enterprise for Employability at Manchester Academy). This initiative provides each student at Key Stage 4 with an E4E opportunity which is tailored to their curriculum pathway.
More recently, students with below average reading ages have embarked on a reading recovery programme, with amazing results!
