Educational Trips Abroad
Miss Pagett and Mr Smith took 5 Year 10 Spanish students to Asturias in Northern Spain for a three-day language enrichment trip organised with The Valnalón Foundation.
For some students, this was their first journey on a plane and they could hardly contain their excitement at the prospect of flying for the first time. It was hilarious when one student (mentioning no names) just after take-off, complained of being too hot and asked if they could open the window!
One of the highlights of the trip was undoubtedly our morning spent in a Spanish Secondary School called Cuenca del Nalon.
Our students were introduced to Spanish students and had to really use their own Spanish skills to communicate. It was wonderful to see our students lose their inhibitions and ‘have a go’. The trip proved that when learning a language the most effective learning really
does take place outside of the classroom.
The language comes alive and serves a real purpose as you have to communicate in real life situations to real Spanish people who do not speak English. (Of course Miss Pagett was there if students got really flustered but students were encouraged to` have a go’ and try for themselves).
All the students learned new vocabulary, experienced different ways of life and tried new Spanish foods; their favourite being was Chocolate con Churros: delicious!
