ICT

The ICT Department at Manchester Academy is made up of an energetic team of teachers. The ICT suites are located on the first floor and have four teaching classrooms that are equipped with the most up to date computers and interactive whiteboard technology.

This is in line with the National Curriculum orders and in tune with our modern world.

The curriculum for Key Stage Three (KS3) is challenging and stimulating our students to there full potential. We are using new software within the department which includes Macromedia dream weave from as early as year 7.

Throughout Key Stage Three (KS3) we use Active Expression software, this software allows the student to interactively participate in the lesson by answering questions electronically.  This software also allows the teacher to assess the student throughout the term and see the progression the student is making.

Our Key Stage Three (KS3) results this year improved which indicates that we are making good progress with our students at this fundamental key stage.

KS4 results in the ICT department were the best ever, with well over 50% of our students gaining a grade C, more than doubling the previous year’s results. This result puts us near the top of schools nationally for “adding value” – improving students results over the 5 years from Y7-Y11 and demonstrates the value of all the work the teachers and students have put in. Students at KS4 have access to the same extra-curricular support as KS3 students and lessons are planned to ensure that every student reaches their potential.

Young Enterprise

This is the fourth year that ‘Young Enterprise’ has operated in Manchester Academy. The aim is to encourage our students to a greater education, greater minds and succeed through enterprise and innovation. Twelve selected students are encouraged to set up and operate a successful business adventure. They are given the opportunity to produce a product to sell to the public. Manchester Academy students will compete against other schools across Greater Manchester.
