Appointments, Attendance & Punctuality

Students who know they will be absent for an appointment must provide evidence for our records for example an appointment card or letter and inform us either in person or by phoning the Sixth-Form office on 0161-232 4194.

Medical and dental appointments should, however, whenever possible, be made outside school hours.

Attendance & Punctuality

Attendance and punctuality are important. Students who are absent or late interrupt their learning and this damages their chances of success.

100% attendance is vital in order to achieve and raise attainment and a zero tolerance strategy is undertaken. As in the world of work, we expect all our students to be in, and on time, every day.

In the Sixth Form absence is defined as a student not being in class. We do, however, distinguish between absence for legitimate reasons and unauthorised absences.

House tutors are required to take the register on a daily basis and alert the Sixth Form Administrator on the first day of absence. This will result in a phone call home. Subject teachers are to alert the Director of Sixth Form if a lesson is missed and the above procedure applies.

All Records of telephone calls are to be kept on student files. If a ‘problem pattern’ emerges for example every Monday and Friday, the following action will be taken:

  • Student interviewed by House Tutor in the first instance;
  • Concern letter sent home;
  • Meeting with Director of Sixth Form;
  • Review date set if improved praise post card sent home if not:
•    A meeting is arranged with the Director of Sixth Form, the student and if possible parents;
•    Student is placed on Attendance Report;
•    A review date is set;
•    A letter is sent home to confirm issues and expectations for the future;
•    Copy is placed on student file;
•    Attendance monitored by use of report;
•    Review meeting with student’s parents/carers.

Taking Holidays in Term-Time

Taking holiday in term-time breaks the conditions set out in the Sixth Form Contract. Furthermore, unauthorised absence will be taken into account when deciding whether a student should continue a course the following year.
