Study Skills Tips

Be organised. This is crucial. You need to make sure that you always carry equipment. Keep all your files and notes up-to-date. Catch up with any missing work straightaway. Follow these tips to help you revise.
 
 Have a focus
  • Give each revision session a focus
  • Don’t just wait through notes again and again
  • Think about what question you want to be able to answer by the end of the session
 
 Read Carefully  
  • Always use a pencil or highlighter – never just read
  • Highlight key facts and key terms – not everything
 
 Make Revision Cards
  • Make revision cards from highlighted parts
  • They can contain information, essential points, key ideas, definitions, examples and diagrams
 
 Use Revision Cards
  • Study using revision cards and learn them
  • You can read revision cards and tape yourself
  • Take them with you – very portable
 
 Test Yourself
  • Use any way that works for you. You could:
    •   Try writing out study cards from memory
    •   Practise past papers
 
 Check it
  • Getting a friend to test you
  • Make sure you are revising the right things
  • Check you have your facts right
  • Make sure you have not left any important facts out
  • Focus on things you don’t know
