Money & Banks
Sixth-Form students who are eligible for the Education Maintenance Allowance [EMA] funding will need a bank account.
EMA is a weekly payment of £30.00, depending on household income. The money is intended to help with the day-to-day costs when you stay on at school or college. If you think you may be entitled, please see Ms Thompson when you arrive at college.
Students who need it, can be given help to open an account at the local branch of one of the major banks. Two separate forms of ID will be needed before the branch will agree to open an account.
Students from overseas can also be given this help. However, it is unlikely that the bank will agree to open an account until the Home Office has given the student permission to stay for at least three years.
