Reading Miles Global Challenge
Thursday, 12th January, 2012
The National Literacy Trust has launched the Reading Miles Global Challenge, a new competition for all UK schools that will run from 9th January to 16th March 2012 and we’re taking part!
Each student in Years 7, 8 and 9 have a special reading passport and a clear vision of where they need to travel to in order to enter the competition!
Students are rewarded with 500 reading miles for every 10 minutes spent reading. They then collect these reading miles in their passport on their very own reading world tour – a huge 33,000 miles (or 11 hours) in total!
Every English classroom will have a wall map which charts the Reading Miles Global Challenge route so that students can see how far they have “travelled”. The challenge has been split into seven journeys, each of which finishes in a “checkpoint city”. There are certificates to be awarded and postcards to be sent!
Every student who completes their reading journey around the world will be entered into a prize draw to win some fantastic prizes.
This challenge aims to encourage students to read at home, as well as in school and to promote reading for pleasure.
