Mrs August welcomes one of the first students she ever taught!
Mrs August, saw for the first time today, in quite a few years, one of her former pupils, who is also a head teacher and like Mrs August is also a National Leader of Education.
Chris Abbot was a student at Manchester High School for Girls, when Mrs August became her History teacher and inspired her to go to university.
Chris said: “I wasn’t going to go to university, I didn’t really know anything about it; nobody in my family had ever thought about going to university either. Then Mrs August arrived and everything changed. She persuaded me to think about going to university and she even got my parents in to convince them that I’d love it and that I was good enough.”
“Mrs August along with the then Head of Sixth Form, Angel Scott, are the two people that changed my life for ever. I went on to the University of Leeds and I am now head teacher of South Hunsley in East Yorkshire, which like Manchester Academy is also a National Support School. How my life may have turned out so differently if it wasn’t for these two women!"
It just goes to show, if you work hard, anything is possible! So when Mrs August or any of your other teachers encourage you to do something which you’re not sure about, it might be worth listening and taking a risk every once in while!
