Young International Trader Programme
Manchester Academy is now in its third Year of the Young International Trader programme. The programme is endorsed by the Institute of Export.
The students in the Business Studies department study seven modules in conjunction with their BTEC Business qualification this has been embedded in the Scheme of Work for the subject.
The students in the Business Studies option group work with a registered member of the Institute of Export who works are their mentor and assists with the facilitating of the modules. The mentor leads sessions with the students on a regular basis throughout the academic year. Prior to the mentor visits the business studies department meet with the mentor to review the resources used and the work out the delivery strategies used for each individual module and the differentiation for each teaching group.
The programme is an opportunity for the Business Studies students to become familiar with the potential advantages and disadvantages of importing/exporting. The Institute of Export states ‘all students completing the programme will benefit from an increased understanding of the world around them, and an appreciation of how the clothes they are wearing and the food they are eating has arrived in their local shops.’
The reason that the Business Studies have participated on this programme is that are students enjoy working with their mentor and getting the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the imports and exports industry and how other countries trade. The department feels that this is an invaluable experience that these students have this opportunity.
After completing the programme students are presented with a Certificate from the Institute of Export, these certificates are issued to students in a prize giving ceremony.
