Students keep Manchester Evening News Editor on her toes!
Eight budding Year 9 and 10 journalists were invited to the Manchester Evening News offices to work with journalists and editors for the day.
The day kicked off with the Chief Editor, Maria McGeoghan giving up her morning to speak to the students and answer all of their questions about the Media. In the usual academy style, the questions were rigorous and very searching, keeping Maria on her toes!
Students impressed the staff so much with their knowledge of current affairs and their ability to share their different opinions that they were invited to sit in on the daily news conference. This is where all the top stories are shared amongst the journalists, before Maria decides which stories take priority. The students were sworn to secrecy and clearly enjoyed being in the inner circle!
To top the secrets of the conference room, Maria arranged for the students to see a criminal journalist in action at the Crown Court. Students witnessed the opening of a trial and saw just how important it is for a reporter to have Shorthand!
So impressed by the students, the MEN have asked them to go back in September with the possibility of actually writing some of the articles for the paper! Watch this space!
