Destiny at Manchester Academy

I’ve been fortunate enough to go on two trips with Destiny now. The first was a visit to the Chancellors Hotel and Conference Centre (owned and operated by the University of Manchester) where we worked with head chef, Matthew Burke.

The afternoon was great fun with everybody (including the visitor from Enterprise UK) getting their hands, and faces, covered in chocolate.

Destiny - a Manchester Academy company

Firstly Matthew talked the group through the plan for the afternoon, demonstrating how the chocolate production line would run. Excitement grew when a huge bowl of melted chocolate appeared along with the first batch of 900 truffle centres. The task was then to cover the truffle centres with melted chocolate and other gorgeous toppings.

Two fun filled hours later…..and the chocolates were covered and being chilled down ready for packaging. My overriding memory is of everybody covered in chocolate with huge smiles plastered across their faces. Matthew was awesome and the students really warmed to his approachable, fun outlook on food.

After a bit of a taxi issue we all arrived back to Manchester Academy bearing the fruits of our labour. Over the following two weeks the students sold in excess of 320 bags of their scrummy truffles. In this time I was also able to organise for Destiny to visit the Manchester United training ground where the group met England captain Rio Ferdinand.

Working with Destiny has been great fun. Matt and I are certain they will all go on to achieve great things – GOOD WORK GUYS!
