Meet the Professionals Law Event
Thursday 12th November 09
All the Manchester Academy students took part in our very first ‘sector drop’ in November. This culminated in our ‘Meet the Professionals Law Event’ on Thursday evening.
The aims of the sector drops are:
? To raise the extent to which pupils understand the opportunities available to them, develop aspirations and understand how to achieve them.
? To further develop employer engagement.
? To promote the variety of different pathways into Higher Education.
? To involve parents and carers in the preparation process for future education, training and employment.
As part of the sector drop, all house tutor groups used interactive resources to investigate career pathways in Law. There were presentations at all of the assemblies, and students along with their parents and carers, were invited to attend the Meet the Professionals event.
The event was highly successful and offered students the opportunity to interact with professionals from within the Law sector and HE. Representatives attended from Manchester Magistrates Court, Cobbetts law firm, University of Manchester, College of Law, and St John's Chambers. We were also delighted to have Barry Harwood, a barrister from Lincoln’s Inn Fields as one of our guests.
The structure of the event was that students:
? Received an information pack about pathways in Law.
? Had a 4 minute meeting with each professional.
The event was very well received…
“If only my school had such vision at this stage and age for the student. It is really good they have things at first hand.” Barry Harwood, Barrister and Senior Lecturer in Law.
“It has helped me to think and also see what I need to do to get to where these people are.” Manchester Academy sudent
We would like to thank all the professionals who took the time with the young people at Manchester Academy.
