Student Internet Use

Acceptable Network & Internet Use Statement - Secondary

  • Network and internet access should only be made via the authorised account and password, which should not be made available to any other person
  • Students will not bring in disks from outside school unless permission is given
  • Students will ask permission from a member of staff before using the Internet
  • All internet activity should be appropriate to the student's education
  • Students will only e-mail people they know, or whom the teacher has approved
  • Students are responsible for all e-mail sent and for contacts made that may result in e-mail being received. Students will not give personal details, home addresses or telephone numbers, or arrange to meet anyone, unless a parent, carer or teacher has given permission

  • Copyright of all materials must be respected;
  • Use of the network to access inappropriate materials such as pornographic, racist or offensive material is forbidden;
  • All messages students send will be polite and responsible;
  • Posting anonymous messages, forwarding chain letters or using chat programs is forbidden and when discovered will result in Internet access being removed;
  • As e-mail can be forwarded or inadvertently sent to the wrong person, the same professional levels of language and content should be applied as for letters or other media;

  • Use of ICT resources for personal financial gain, gambling, political purposes or advertising is forbidden;
  • Students will report any unpleasant material or messages sent to them. These reports will be confidential and will help protect others;
  • The school maintains the right to check computer files and may monitor the Internet sites visited;
  • Downloading or installing any third party programs is forbidden;
  • Activity that threatens the integrity of the school ICT systems, or activity that attacks or corrupts other systems, is forbidden;
  • Any activity, which in the opinion of the school is inappropriate or brings the name of the school into disrepute, is forbidden.
