Maintaining Good Discipline

The Discipline System

Our whole school behaviour management system is intended to maintain good student behaviour in classrooms and within the wider school. The system has been designed to challenge disruption in order to maximise the quality of teaching and learning in lesson time.

Its purpose is to ensure that students recognise and take responsibility for unacceptable behaviour and to prevent disruption of lessons. It works alongside schemes which recognise and reward good work, good behaviour, regular attendance and service to the school.

The positive aspect of all three systems is that all students have every opportunity to be successful and should benefit from lessons that are not disrupted and where the emphasis is upon quality teaching and learning.

Sanctions

Students have the responsibility to adhere to the Partnership Agreement, a copy of which is reproduced at the end of this booklet. Rules and structures are meant to support students in their learning. It is essential that there is a disciplined approach to life in any establishment.

A variety of sanctions may be used in order to adjust student behaviour. These range from verbal reprimands to school exclusion. The sanctions may be agreed with parents / carers and may be, in part, reinforced at home.

This is an important part of the PARTNERSHIP. Parents / carers are informed of the sanctions where necessary. Students who are given a school detention of more than 10 minutes will be given 24 hours notice in writing, via the student.
