PE & Sport

The department is currently staffed by five specialists:
- Head of Department - Miss R Blackwell
- School Sports Coordinator - Miss N Peak
- Teacher i/c Boys' PE - Mr. D Sealy
- Staff - Mr. S Smith, Miss S Currie
All teaching takes place in specialist physical education areas on the school campus/adjoining leisure centre. Work within the Physical Education Department is designed to support, contribute and compliment the aims of the school.
Physical Education aims to provide an enjoyable, satisfying and balanced programme with opportunities for all pupils to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively.

The Physical Education Curriculum offers a comprehensive range of experiences to meet the needs of individual pupils and encourage active involvement by all as performers, observers and officials.
Key stage 4 students can opt to follow the Junior Sports Leaders Award (JSLA), these students then play a big part in planning and running the Departments' full programme of Inter-house competitions, through out the school year. The JSLA students also work alongside the School Sports Coordinator in providing a wide range of sporting festivals for the local Primary schools.
Structured and developmental schemes of work provide for progression, challenge and a sense of achievement. The development of confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of one's own and others' strengths and weaknesses are considered to be an important part of the learning process.

It is intended that the programme offered, together with an awareness of the leisure opportunities within the community, will develop those skills and attitudes conducive to involvement in an active and healthy lifestyle.
