Marvellous Time at Malam Visit

As you might have heard a project called Buddy Reading has been going on over the past few months. Recently a children's information book writer called John Malam came over to our school to do a workshop based on creating our own book.
- He talked about himself and ran over the basics of making a
book. We then had to choose from the roles of Editor, Writer,
Illustrator and Designer for our 4 members in the group. We were
then given a big A1 worksheet on which we were to design our book.
After that we were presented with a choice of cards, each card had
a subject on it about which we were to write a book.
However, we did not know what each card said, which meant some groups got something they loved and others something they hate. Our group got the cad to make a book about a football team or football player. Being in Manchester we decided to make ours about Manchester United.
- At the end of the day when all the hard work on our worksheets was done and we were all extremely tired. However, John had a surprise in store. He told us to fold the worksheets in a particular way (which he showed), and then he came round himself with a stapler and letter opener. We were simply amazed with what was left. It was a complete 16 page book. That day was simply superb.
