Drama Department

The Drama department welcomes a new colleague, Collette Grant, who joined us in September. Ms Grant, who is also teaching English at the Academy, intends to start a Key Stage 3 Drama club.

Mrs Brown, the Head of the Drama department is currently holding auditions! All students have the opportunity to come and audition for the production which will hopefully by staged in the Spring term. This year's production is 'Hey There Boy with the Be-Bop.' by Abi Brown. The play is about the residents of a street in Liverpool. In particular it explores the friendship between a teenaged girl and a terminally ill boy. There are a number of main roles and also a chorus of smaller characters - the Street's inhabitants.

Students who don't want to perform, or perhaps don't get a part this time, will have the opportunity to help with the production backstage in a number of ways for example, costume, props, stage management or publicity.

The Academy's last production, 'The Soldier's Tale', was very successful. Involving Academy students and musicians from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra it was performed at Manchester University's John Thaw Studio.

The Drama department are hoping to build on this success and are very excited that Manchester Academy's fantastic new building means that we now have the facilities to stage our production in school.

In addition the Drama department, together with the Art department, are involved in two Creative Partnerships projects.
