Art and Design Department

The Art and Design department consists of 4 teaching staff, all with a broad variety of teaching specialism in drawing and painting, graphics, sculpture, print and textiles.

All staff deliver a broad curriculum of art activities in both Key stages 3 and 4 and units of work are often supported by learning about the work of artists and designers and also visits to local galleries or museums. Recent visits have included a trip to the Tate Gallery in Liverpool and a local garden centre for project work.

Student learning is generally supported by excellent ICT facilities in the department, these include digital photography, printers, interactive whiteboards and Apple Macs.

Staff are also keen to promote learning by providing opportunities for students to work alongside visiting artists. In the past there have been artists in residence, specialising in sculpture, ceramics and textiles.

In addition, the department has partnership links with the Whitworth Art Gallery and The Manchester Museum and students are often invited to participate in art activities at these venues. At present we are hoping to develop further links with other artists.

At present, the Art and Drama department are working in collaboration with other schools in a creative partnership project.
