Business, Languages and Orange Mummies!

Manchester University
*

On the 17th June until the 19th six students including me visited Manchester University to learn about university life and all the different subjects they teach there.

  • On arrival we were assigned different groups where we mixed with people from other schools.

Next was a presentation held in a large lecture hall. This basically filled us in on what we were going to be doing in the following three days and a little about the university and student life there.

The idea about placing us with complete strangers really worked! We were taught and helped by university volunteers this was a great opportunity to meet new friends and have a good learning experience at the university. As we were all in the same boat and a little lost and overwhelmed by the whole experience, we needed to become friends - very quickly!
  • Each day we had different workshops including mummifying an orange (yes honestly you didn't read that wrong!

Then we worked on languages, exchanging money, art and history. We could take part in a skills workshop of our own choice from such subjects as. Business, Sociology, Law, languages and many more.

The one I enjoyed most was unsurprisingly the one involving mummifying an orange. It did have some academic relevance honestly! You see in this workshop we learned about Egyptians and a little about what they believed and how dead people and animals were turned into mummies. Then we actually did it we mummified an ORANGE!!!!! It was really messy but a great experience!

Everyone enjoyed the time spent at the university it was a great opportunity. I would definitely recommend it to everyone
