Resistant Materials

Manchester Academy students taking part in Resistant Materials, design and work on projects using a range of materials (in particular plastics and wood) in two practical workshops.

*

The workshops have excellent facilities where students use CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) to produce projects of their choice.

Resistant Materials - Manchester Academy
  • The workshops have excellent facilities where students use CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) to produce projects of their choice.
  • Students also have the opportunity to work with CNC machinery, ICT, plastic forming equipment, heat treatment, casting and a variety of other workshop based equipment to produce prototypes.
  • The picture opposite shows Mr Armson (Head of Resistant Materials) working on the CNC machine.
*
  • Here is an example of the many prototypes produced by the students.
*
  • Overall, students gain the experience of handling a variety of materials to develop a problem-solving approach through experiment, group work and production of finished items.
  • All of which are valuable skills in the world of business and enterprise.
