Resistant Materials
Manchester Academy students taking part in Resistant Materials, design and work on projects using a range of materials (in particular plastics and wood) in two practical workshops.

The workshops have excellent facilities where students use CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) to produce projects of their choice.

- The workshops have excellent facilities where students use CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) to produce projects of their choice.
- Students also have the opportunity to work with CNC machinery, ICT, plastic forming equipment, heat treatment, casting and a variety of other workshop based equipment to produce prototypes.
- The picture opposite shows Mr Armson (Head of Resistant Materials) working on the CNC machine.

- Here is an example of the many prototypes produced by the students.

- Overall, students gain the experience of handling a variety of materials to develop a problem-solving approach through experiment, group work and production of finished items.
- All of which are valuable skills in the world of business and enterprise.
