Manchester United Foundation: Spring Term Updates

Published on 21 April 2017

Flag Bearing

For the second time since the partnership began, Manchester Academy were given the opportunity to have students represent the school as flag bearers for the FC Rostov fixture.

The 13 lucky students were selected due to their extracurricular involvement at school. The students attended a rehearsal with staff the day prior to the game where they were gifted a full Adidas tracksuit to take away as a memento for the occasion.

On the day, the students took to the pitch to fly the official Europa League flag as the players emerged from the tunnel. “I was really excited when I was just a couple of yards away from the players”, Isse Hassan, Year 9.

Manchester Business Enterprise

A mixed gender group of Year 9 students recently took part in the 1-day Manchester United Core Enterprise project held at the Old Trafford stadium.

The programme aims to give students an insight into how Manchester United operates as a business and the different jobs available at a football club. As well as an introduction to the world of football, business students also developed a range of enterprise skills such as: leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving and business / customer awareness.

This was demonstrated excellently by students who were tasked with creating their own mock businesses, covering all areas such as slogans, logos and advertisements before delivering a team presentation to the rest of the group.

As an added bonus, due to her excellent efforts on the day, student, Maysam Alkirkit was awarded match tickets for Manchester United’s home fixture against Anderlecht on Thursday 20th April.

“I feel really proud and happy that I won tickets to go to a match”, Maysam Alkirkit, Year 9.

Holiday Club

For this half term’s holiday club, Manchester Academy merged with Foundation partnerStretford High SchoolOver the course of the week, students from years 8 and 9 made the trip over to Stretford High school who hosted.

As requested by students, a full 11 vs. 11 game started off the morning. This was then followed by a mini mixed team tournament, allowing students from both schools to play together.
