The team played very well, progressing through the group stages to the semi-final, where they were narrowly beaten by Wright Robinson, a team they previously defeated in the first game of the tournament.
Year 9 Futsal
The next day, a team of Year 9 students also represented the school in the futsal tournament.
Due to a couple of injuries, we had to go with the bare minimum of 5 players (while many of the opposing schools had at least 10 players to choose from). Consequently, the quintet played 125 minutes of high intensity football!
Despite this, the boys were a credit to themselves and the school. Some of the futsal played was excellent, with lots of praise given by teachers of the opposition teams. We were unbeaten during the group stages, finishing top.
After a convincing 8-2 win in the semi-final, we progressed to the final. Unfortunately, we were narrowly beaten 3-2 (by a team we had beat 7-1 in the first game) due to running out of energy towards the end. Nevertheless, all 5 players showed outstanding fitness, attitude and ability, earning plaudits from all other schools and were a credit to Manchester Academy.
Year 10 Futsal
Finally, despite not kicking a ball, our Year 10 team have progressed to the regional finals which will be played in Liverpool, so we look forward to that.
