Last week, the Principal, Mr Griffin and DofE Co-ordinator, Mr Duckworth attended a once in a life time Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Gold Award Presentation at Buckingham Palace, London.
This year’s Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Award candidates had their first experience of the outdoors on our annual trip to Ghyll Head on the edge of Lake Windemere.
24th – 26th January: last weekend was the first opportunity for our Bronze, Duke of Edinburg award team to get their hands dirty (literally) in the great outdoors in preparation for their expedition.

Have you got what it takes?
Finally, after two years of hard work, the group have passed their DofE Silver Award expedition! The weather was well and truly against our young adventurers, but their enthusiasm and confidence couldn’t have been better.
After a hard few weeks of planning, the silver DofE group finally got out on their practice expedition to the Lake District. The weather held off for the start as they set off in high spirits from Grisdale, named after the Viking words for ‘Valley of the Boars’.
Last weekend (Friday, 8th – Sunday, 10th February) we took our second group of Bronze pupils out to Ghyll Head, and although we weren’t hit by the snow, a fun and rewarding time was had by all.
On Friday 25th January, 27 pupils from Year 10 arrived at a very snowy and cold Ghyll Head in the Lake District to take part in their training for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The DofE award is gaining such popularity that Manchester Academy has just been mentioned in the National DofE Award newsletter which will be seen by participants, schools, colleges, universities and independent DofE operating authorities.
It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to Manchester Academy. We are a vibrant, dynamic and forward-thinking learning community, which embraces diversity and is committed to ensuring the success of our students.
